Reverse Engineering and Reproduction of Automotive Parts:

Expertise Built on Technical Archives

Reverse engineering & manufacturing of technical parts

For over 20 years, Mespiecesauto has been remanufacturing parts to original-level standards for brands such as Alpine, Renault, Peugeot,
Citroën and Porsche. Our expertise covers the entire process, from metrological measurement to validation on test benches and vehicles.

• Foundry & machining work (camshafts, manifolds, turbochargers, etc.)
• Plastic & elastomer injection molding (silent blocks, fittings/hardware)
• Forging – stamping (synchro rings, steering ball joints, etc.)
• Glass manufacturing and various processes
We recreate a complete specification sheet: material specifications, tolerances, treatments, dimensional checks and testing.
Objective: a reliable, durable part that remains true to the original design philosophy.

The specification sheet: the invisible yet essential foundation

Technical progress might make it seem easy to establish the specifications for an older technology.
In reality, the opposite is true. Each part serves a precise function, and it is essential to understand the engineering choices that led to its design.
This often-overlooked stage is nevertheless crucial to ensuring a faithful and reliable remanufacture. Depending on the complexity, it can take from a few weeks to several months. Here are some of the variables used to establish the preliminary specifications:

  • the dimensioning: research into archived technical drawings or an identical development basis.
  • the choice of materials: composition, search for manufacturer-standard materials, treatments.
  • the manufacturing process: research into the different stages and skills involved in the historical process, and its technical necessity.

Mespiecesauto holds extensive archives in mechanical engineering and combustion engines, covering the period from the 1920s to the 2000s.
Our database includes numerous technical drawings from manufacturers’ engineering departments, as well as scientific publications and standards. Over the years, we have built a network of experts and engineers that enables us to cross-check and validate the data collected.

The technical arsenal: acquisition and validation

In a reverse engineering approach, the use of acquisition methods has two objectives: to confirm the data from the preliminary specifications and to complete any missing information. This information may be dimensional, related to material definition, surface finish or treatments. To achieve this, various laboratories and specialized tools may be used:

  • Measurement equipment: measuring arm, 3D scanning, roughness tester, hardness tester, camshaft test bench
  • Analysis tools: scanning electron microscope, mass spectrometer, tensile testing bench, XRF analyzer
  • Calculation tools: CAD and simulation software

A remanufacture worthy of the name must meet a technical objective. It is essential to validate all parameters in order to guarantee that the part will be compliant with the expectations and requirements for which it was designed. Too many remanufactured parts are limited to their mechanical appearance, without ensuring their actual function.

The prototype: from theory to reality

• Dimensioning
• Assembly
• Addition of features or accessories

Mespiecesauto systematically carries out this prototyping phase (excluding bearings and bushings). For both our customers and ourselves, it is a guarantee of complete understanding, rigorous execution and compliant fitment of the part.

Series production: the final stretch

The final stage requires particular vigilance in order to strictly respect the points validated upstream. Series production allows no deviation: it is part of a fast, strictly defined industrial process. No correction is possible during manufacturing, which is why any quality drift must be avoided.

Mespiecesauto is responsible for the parts delivered and guarantees consistent quality.
Control samples are regularly taken during production runs to verify compliance with technical directives.
